Species are placed in the genus based upon phylogeny and host range.
Bisegmented, negative-sense RNA.
Wēnzhōu tapeworm virus 1 (WzTWV-1) genome encodes 5 proteins including a putative glycoprotein and four hypothetical proteins on RNA 2 and an RNA-directed RNA polymerase on RNA 1, identified on the basis of sequence similarity and structural properties shared with mononegavirus homologues (Shi et al., 2016).
Genome organization and replication
WzTWV-1 has two negative-sense RNA genome segments with reported sequence data of 6 kb (Shi et al., 2016).
Tapwovirus genome sequence was isolated from tapeworms.
Derivation of names
Tapwovirus: from Wēnzhōu tapeworm virus 1 and virus, the suffix for a genus.
