Updates approved during EC 53, Online meeting, July 2021; Email ratification March 2022 (MSL #37)
Dear admin, In a latest ref. (Dance, A. The incredible diversity of viruses. Nature 595, 22–25 (2021).), the author stated that: "There are just 9,110 named species listed by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV), but that’s obviously a pitiful fraction of the total." But we found that there are 10,434 known and named virus species in the ICTV Master Species List 2021.v1 (ICTV2021 Master Species List#37,Excel Spreadsheet). We would appreciate it if you could help us confirm which figure is accurate. For example, we could state like that: "At least 10,434 known and named virus species could infect humans." Thank you for your kind consideration.
