New MSL including all taxa updates since the 2011 release. This MSL provides updates approved during EC44 in Leuven, Belgium, and ratified by the ICTV membership in early 2013.

Version 2 of the 2012 MSL corrects the following errors:

Removed the incorrect designation as a type species for the following:
Mononegavirales;Rhabdoviridae;Unassigned;Ephemerovirus;Obodhiang virus
Picornavirales;Picornaviridae;Unassigned;Kobuvirus;Aichivirus C
(Correct type species were already designated in each genus)

ICTV 2011 Master Species List (MSL) version 2

New MSL including all taxa updates since the 2009 release. This MSL provides updates approved during EC42 in Paris, 2010 and EC43 in Sapporo, 2011, and ratified by the ICTV membership in 2012.

Version 2 of the 2011 MSL restores 5 species unassigned in family Closteroviridae wrongly omitted from MSL (2012.003aP.A.v1.Closteroviridae-5spres):

Olive leaf yellowing-associated virus; Little cherry virus-1; Grapevine leafroll-associated virus-7; Megakepasma mosaic virus; and Alligatorweed stunting virus

This page contains three tabs with the following information:

(1) The Virus Images: Electron Micrographs tab leads to 22 virus images (plus various colorized versions of some of the images). The images and all the other resources in this website may be reprinted and/or used for educational or non-profit purposes, as long as they are credited appropriately. Note: large .tif or .jpg images will be downloaded when you right-click on the large thumbnails or or choose "Save Image as..." or "Save Picture as..." according to your browser. The large images range from 5 to 10 Mb.

(2) The Foundations of Virology tab leads to the main (combined) PowerPoint slide set, Foundations of Virology, and to the same set broken into six smaller files. This tab also contains the file for my 520 page eBook, with the same title, Foundations of Virology. This is a 117Mb .pdf file, which takes about 2 minutes to download on my home computer, but it is the lowest resolution (smallest file) possible using Adobe Acrobat. The highest resolution file, suitable for printing, is currently being evaluated for on-demand eBook printing at the UTMB printing facility. This file is also available, but I would have to send it on a DVD.

(3) The Virology Papers tab contains a Word file (.doc), Discovers and Discoveries, which has a large chronological table matching the entries in the PowerPoint slide set and the eBook. This tab also contains .pdf files of several of my old papers that are not available on the Internet.

This Excel file contains the official ICTV Master Species List (MSL) for 2009. This spreadsheet lists all approved virus taxa and supersedes the previous taxonomy published as a part of the ICTV 8th Report as well as the 2008 Master Species List

This is version 10 of the MSL published on August 24, 2011.

NOTE: This version of the MSL is the version of the ICTV Taxonomy published in the book version of the ICTV 9th Report.

Changes from version 9 to version 10:

1. Change Bunyaviridae:Phlebovirus:Chandiru to Candiru

2. Change Bunyaviridae:Phlebovirus:Salehebad to Salehabad
